Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Does FlashMemoryStore.com match competitors' prices?
A. Prices in the industry are always changing, some adjusting daily. We offer pricematching on some items. However, please realize that if the price looks to good to be true, it probably is. All our products carry a 30-day money-back guarantee and a lifetime warranty (see above). Few stores can offer you that!

Q. Do you have products that are not listed online? Can you specially order parts and products?
A. We can order special parts and products. Please contact us and let us know the products you would like to get pricing on.

Q. If an item is out of stock, can I still purchase it and have it shipped when it's back in stock?
A. Sure! We will accept your order and make sure to get the product you are waiting for as soon as it is back in stock. We won't charge your credit card until the item ships. Therefore, please do place your order. If we can't fill it, we'll make sure to notify you and apologize for the inconvenience.

Q. Can I make a change to an order after it has been placed?
A. We process our orders very quickly. Once your order is on the shipping dock, we cannot stop it from being shipped or make any changes. Please contact us if you are interested in changing your order. We will attempt to change your order if it has not reached our shipping dock but CANNOT PROMISE we will ultimately fulfill your request.

    Q. My package hasn't arrived and I shipped it using USPS. Can i get another order sent to me?
A. Ten days must pass since the package was originally shipped: after 10 days pass, we can start looking into the matter. Thirty days must pass before the Postal Service allows us to fill out a tracer to find the package. Therefore, we can only do a cross-shipment after those 30 days. A cross-shipment occurs when we charge you for another order and ship it, and than refund the cost of the original order when it is returned to us. Please note that refused or undelivered packages are returned to us by the Postal Service in about 15 days.<

Q. Is my product going to be compatible with my device?
A. All types of flash memory come in different sizes, formats, brands and interfaces. To be absolutely sure a product is compatible with your device, please rely on the product manual. If the manual does not give you an answer please contact the manufacturer or do a search online.

Q. My USB 2.0/USB 1.1 device is not recognized in my Windows 98 machine.
A. Only Windows 98 Second Edition (SE) is compatible with the USB interface. To enable USB on Windows 98 Second Edition you will need to install the appropriate driver. It can be found by following this link.

Q. Is my external hard drive going to be compatible with Windows Vista?
A. All external hard drives we sell are compatible with Windows Vista.

Q. What is the difference between SD and SDHC?
A. SD (Secure Digital) is a flash memory format that reaches capacities of up to 4GB. SDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity) is a new format that supports sizes of 4GB and above. SDHC is also formatted in FAT32, while some SD is formatted in FAT16. SDHC flash memory can only be used in devices that support SDHC. SD cards can be used in SDHC-compatible devices, but SDHC cards can not be used in devices that are not specifically compatible with SDHC.

Q. When I insert my flash memory, the device locks up or gives a “Memory Card Error”/ ”Memory Card Full”/ ”Cannot Format Memory card” error message.
A. Some devices have specific specifications on size and format. These messages are common when using a higher capacity than the maximum allowed; Using a FAT32 product in a FAT16 device and/or using a brand other than the one the device recommends.

Q. What are class speeds and how can I determine how fast my memory card is?
A. Class speed or Class speed rating, is how Secure Digital memory is rated in speed. There are three class ratings:
Class 2: Minimum sustained speed of 2MB/s
Class 4: Minimum sustained speed of 4MB/s
Class 6: Minimum sustained speed of 6MB/s
These are the minimum sustained speeds at which the memory device can transfer data.

Q. Why does my 16GB flash card show 15.1GB and my 200GB external hard drive show 180.1GB?
A. This depends on is how manufacturers define the terms. In actuality, 1024KB = 1MB, 1024MB = 1GB, and so on. However, it’s the industry standard to define 1MB as 1000 KB and 1GB as 1000MB. As a result, some of the memory capacity gets "lost" due to the difference in definitions.

Q. What is the difference between FAT16 and FAT32?
A. FAT16 is the file format for all flash memory under 1GB. FAT32 is a file format for all flash memory over 1GB. FAT32 memory will NOT work in FAT16 devices, though FAT32 devices are backwards compatible with FAT16 memory.
