Information and Benefits of ReadyBoost for Windows Vista

U3 Logo

ReadyBoost is a disk caching technology that aims to make computers running Windows Vista more responsive by using flash memory in order to boost system performance. Windows can allocate up to 4gb of space on an inserted USB flash drive, SD card, Memory Stick, CompactFlash card, or other type of flash memory toward ReadyBoost usage. Additionally, ReadyBoost can only be used with flash memory devices that meet high data transfer rate standards.

  • Speeds up Windows Vista
  • No technical knowledge required
  • Can be used with any high-speed flash memory device
  • Helps laptops save power and battery life

No Technical Knowledge Required

Don't know how to upgrade your computer's memory? No problem, just plug in a ReadyBoost capable flash drive and - your computer can start using its memory capacity right away.

Control How Much Flash Memory Is Used for ReadyBoost

Windows Vista lets you choose how much memory you want to allocate to ReadyBoost usage. For example, if you plug in a 4GB ReadyBoost capable USB flash drive, you can choose to use any amount of memory up to 4GB for ReadyBoost. So, if you choose to use 2GB for ReadyBoost, the remaining 2GB could be used for anything else you normally use your flash drive for.

Ease of Use

No special knowledge or skill is necessary. Windows Vista does everything for you. And when you remove the flash memory device from your computer, Windows automatically adjusts its memory settings appropriately.

Security

The cached information stored on your ReadyBoost capable flash memory device is encrypted, so there is no risk of it being used for malicious or unintended purposes.

Alternative to RAM

ReadyBoost is especially useful for those who do not have any available RAM slots to upgrade their memory.

Speed

Because ReadyBoost is typically used in conjunction with a USB 2.0 port, small amounts of data are transferred faster than using a hard drive.

Power Saving

If you normally use a laptop or notebook computer, you know that battery life is one of the most important factors. Using flash memory for data access means that your hard drive does less work, thereby increasing your battery life.
